About That Northerner Printer
This is my about page so let's talk a little bit about me. I Lisa, I am based in North-West England with my supportive and sarcastic husband, my son that wont stop growing and our absolutely balmy Labrador. I studied both BA and MA Photography focusing on engagement between audience and creator. Learning and developing on my skills I started to focus a little more in mixed media, and alternative photography processing and this is where I developed a really love of the use of cyanotype and print making processes.
After leaving education and a thrown into a pandemic like the whole world I found myself at home with my family so me and my son experimenting with cyanotypes once again. Some of our creations are below.
After we got out of the global lockdown, I started to pursue a career in education. After my experiences with guest spot talks and national conferences, I wanted to make it a little more official and teach photography at a Further Education.
As mush as I love teaching and after teaching photography for a while, there was an update on my health. After a spot of pneumonia, there was some complication and I needed to change the way I worked and slow down a little. This is where That Northern Printer was born. Using botanicals pressed flowers and taking inspiration from nature and my surroundings. It made me take a breath and slow down.
Cyanotypes and printing processes I feel if the perfect way to blend my artistic skills and develop love and understanding of botanicals and nature in my surrounding areas. I started to develop more and more prints and it got to a point where there is only so much you can gift and put on your own walls. So as most small business I start an Etsy and folksy store and started to build my online presence.
I currently produce botanical and nature inspired cyanotype prints, cards and bookmarks. Pieces I make also include free motion and hand embroidered artwork. After collecting a large amounts of photography over the years I sometimes include some of my own photography within prints.
I am always looking to build my skills and knowledge and am currently working on a collection of Lino and Gelli prints. These presses allow for experimentation with a more vibrant range of colours and shapes, styles and textures.
