About That Northern Printer

As this is the about page let’s talk a little bit about me and That Northern Printer. Hi, I’m list I am based in Lancashire in the North-West of England. I live with my ever growing son, my heavily beared husband, the luna-tic Labrador and the Ladies (rats) Flo and River.

I currently work from my little garden igloo. This is my current studio working space (i find working outside helps ground and inspire me)

My background is based in Photography I studied at the University of Central  Lancashire gaining my BA and MA. While studding I focused on social engagement and social and political relationships and engagement in the arts. All though I loved photography I never really found my flow with digital photography, the softwares and editing. However in my masters I worked heavily in the dark room. Experimenting with photograms, printing imagery and some cyanotype works. This is where I really enjoyed the practical elements of print making.

I left education at the start of the pandemic 2020. As like millions I stayed home, home school my son, made banana bread and plenty of PJ days.

After the lockdown I started my career in education, I studied my PGCE at Blackpool University Centre under on of the most inspiring teachers I have ever had. This opened up working with teenagers and adults in Further Education. Yes it was really hard in places but working with them was really good, it also aloud me to figure out that I really didn’t like the digital side of photography and really enjoyed working in combination with art and mixed media’s.

After a couple of years I unfortunately had some life and health changes and this ment I couldn’t keep working as a teacher. I am not one for sitting and doing nothing so the idea of working as an artist for myself. This was a whole new concept and frighting to say the least. This was a chance to start a new way of working.

Taking my love of slower print making, art and botanicals I started to make art work! I have started with working cyanotype prints, use dried and pressed flowers (that I try to forage myself as much as possible). Curating images to make beautiful prints that would look lovely in any home or given as a gift. Current works include canvas’s, prints, cards, collages, embroideries and more. I make all the work myself, I don’t digitise anything and any work that may have repeats will be labelled as so.

Other little fun facts about me is I love my tattoos. I meditate using knitting and yarn based crafts. The big one is that I am I huge reader I love fantasy, romance, fantasy romance, cute small town books, almost all books.

I hope this introduces you to the artist and processes behind That Northern Printer, If there is anything more you need to know or want to contact me please don’t hesitate to do so.
